The Boss DS-1 Distortion is a hard-clipping distortion pedal that has been in production since 1978. It uses a simple three-knob layout with Distortion, Tone, and Level controls to shape aggressive, mid-forward distortion. The circuit employs an op-amp gain stage with diode clipping followed by a passive tone filter. This silver label version follows the later circuit revision with the NJM3404A op-amp. It provides straightforward distortion that works well in front of a clean or slightly dirty amp, and the Tone knob can cut highs or add bite depending on how it's set.Specifications
