The dbx 166XL is a dual-channel compressor/limiter/gate with stereo linking via true RMS power summing. Each channel has independent threshold, ratio, attack, release, and output gain controls plus OverEasy or hard-knee compression modes, an Auto switch for program-dependent timing, and a PeakStop limiter. Sidechain inserts and separate LED metering for gain reduction, compressor threshold, and gate threshold make setup straightforward for live or studio use.
